A small practice with a long view.

We are a small Edinburgh garden design studio. We work on a deliberately limited number of private gardens each year so that each one can have the attention it deserves — from the first site visit through to the day the last plant goes in.
The studio was founded in 2014, after a decade spent working for larger practices in London and Glasgow. The decision to move to Edinburgh was partly personal and partly practical: the city has an extraordinary range of garden conditions within a few miles of each other — windswept coast at Cramond, walled Georgian gardens in the New Town, mature suburban plots in Morningside, and the hill country of the Pentlands a short drive south.
Every brief is different, but the way we work is the same. We listen first. We draw by hand before we draw on screen. We choose plants we have grown ourselves, or seen grown well in Scotland, rather than chasing what's fashionable elsewhere.
Native and naturalistic
Our planting palette leans toward species that belong in the Scottish landscape — and toward schemes that read as composed but not contrived.
Year-round structure
An Edinburgh garden has to earn its keep in February as well as July. We design for the dormant months as carefully as the flowering ones.
Built to last
Better fewer materials, well-detailed, than many materials thinly used. We specify stone, timber and joinery to outlast trends.

Registered member, Society of Garden Designers. RHS qualified. Listed designer with the Scottish Gardens Trust.
